Accessibility

Putting people first is at the heart of PfP Students. Whether you’re a student, parent, carer, or other visitor, we want you to have a great experience using our site.

We take accessibility seriously. We aim to meet the requirements of the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 and conform with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 standard.

Our approach

  • We aim for clear, simple content and design, so most people can use PfP Students without needing adaptations, while also supporting those who do need adaptations.

  • We try to write in plain language and break up text visually to make reading easier.

  • We test our website with a diverse group of users, including people with disabilities or access needs.

Customer Inclusion Charter

We’re here to support you—whether you consider yourself vulnerable, have additional support needs, or are simply going through a difficult time. We know everyone’s situation is different, and we’re committed to making sure every student feels safe, respected, and supported in their learning journey.

British Sign Language (BSL) Interpretation from Home

We offer a BSL Video Relay Service so you can contact PfP Students using British Sign Language from home. When you launch the service, you will be connected with a qualified BSL interpreter who will relay the conversation.
Connect with an interpreter here (LINK: https://connect.interpreterslive.co.uk/vrs?ilc=placesforpeople)
You can use this service from Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm (excluding bank holidays), and it’s free.

Support with Getting in Touch

We want to make communication accessible. If you need extra support when contacting us (for example having an advocate represent you), let us know. We will work with you to find a method of contact that works for your needs.

Easy Read Documents

We are creating Easy Read versions of certain documents to make information more accessible for people with learning disabilities, for whom English may not be the first language, those who have memory difficulties, or who find reading and writing challenging.

  • Key features include:

  • Short, straightforward sentences

  • Carefully selected images to help explain main points

  • Layouts that are easy to follow

  • We consult with people who use Easy Read documents to ensure they are relevant and usable.

Areas for Improvement

  • Some content, such as downloadable PDFs, may not currently work well with assistive technologies. We plan to improve this by creating dedicated web pages for publications in future.

  • Videos hosted on platforms like YouTube may have auto-generated captions; we are exploring ways to better embed or transcribe content as needed.

Get in Touch

If you have any questions, suggestions, or if there's anything on the PfP Students site that you believe is not accessible, please get in touch. We are happy to help.
